Founded in 1201 and the second richest Cistercian monastery after Tintern, this stunning abbey was dissolved by royal decree in 1537.

Seven centuries later and the abbey is one of the best preserved in Wales. Even the monks’ fishpond is still full of water!

The church dates from the thirteenth century, and the east range of the cloister was remodelled around 1400. There is also a fine collection of medieval memorial sculpture.

Valle Crucis is situated just outside Llangollen. More information at the Cadw website: cadw.gov.wales
